This HRS Task Group, composed of interprofessional healthcare providers, formed in 2022 to review healthcare-related Hawaiʻi Revised Statutes (HRS) as compared to each profession’s scope of practice as established in state law (i.e. practice acts). The purpose was to assess and recommend if HRS amendments are needed in order to improve access to care. In 2025, this task group recommended amendments to 237 (45.06%) of 526 state laws reviewed. The Task Group continues to work with the State Legislature, state government, and healthcare partners to enact the recommended changes with an outcome of improved healthcare efficiency and improved access to care.
