In FY 2022-2023, the Hawaiʻi State Center for Nursing received the first round of funding from the State of Hawaiʻi budget for clinical faculty training (CFT). We receive these funds annually and continue to utilize them to provide training for clinical faculty across the state.

CCNW Faculty Training Course Descriptions

CCNW Part-Time Clinical Faculty Training (3-week course)
Start Dates: May 4, 2026 (registration deadline: April 24) OR August 10, 2026 OR October 5, 2026
The CCNW Clinical Faculty Prep Course is a 3-week 100% online course. This course is not self-paced; it is a faculty-led course with established due dates for all assignments and interactive discussions with your peers. The course is asynchronous – so as long as you submit the assignments on time, you can go in and out of the course around your schedule. The time commitment is approximately 10-15 hours per week. (30 CEs)
This training is held by the Connecticut Center for Nursing Workforce, and course times will be EST.
The required textbook will be provided by the Hawaii State Center for Nursing. It will be mailed to you at your School of Nursing.

CCNW Full-Time Nurse Faculty Preparation Course (6 OR 12 Week Course – same content, hours/wk. varries)
July 13, 2026 – August 23, 2026 (6-week format) OR August 10, 2026 – November 1, 2026 (12-week format)
​Expand your knowledge of teaching methodology, student evaluation, and curriculum development; learn evidence-based innovative strategies to foster active engagement, promote critical thinking, and develop clinical competencies for students. This course supports schools of nursing to accelerate the onboarding of new nurses and novice faculty to become successful in the full-time nurse faculty role.
This course is not self-paced; it is a faculty-led course with established due dates for all assignments and interactive discussions with your peers. The course is asynchronous – so as long as you submit the assignments on time, you can go in and out of the course around your schedule. The time commitment is approximately 10-15 hours per week for the 6-week course and 5-7 hours per week for the 12-week course.

Western States Simulation Alliance (WSSA) Simulation Course Descriptions

Level 1 – Basic Simulation

June 19-20, 2026 | 8:00 am – 3:30 pm (pacific time)
This two-day course is designed to engage the participant with an interest in simulation-based healthcare training with the basic concepts of simulation as an educational strategy. Using a combination of didactic, interactive and immersive group work, the course provides the beginning simulation user with the basics of high-fidelity simulation, scenario development, debriefing strategies to facilitate learning and the effective use of the available technology. The course is designed to provide a network of support for participants new to simulation through the vast resources in the California Simulation Alliance and can be customized to meet the needs of the group on-site at an individual school or hospital.

Level 2 – Advanced Debriefing
June 5, 2026 | 8:00 am – 3:30 pm (pacific time) OR July 10, 2026 | 8:00 am – 3:30 pm (pacific time)
This interactive course is designed for simulation educators seeking to strengthen their debriefing skills and enhance learner outcomes in complex or challenging situations. Building upon foundational simulation concepts, participants will explore advanced debriefing strategies grounded in the current evidence-based frameworks.

Level 2 – The WSSA Simulation Intensive
October 1-2, 2026; 8:00 am – 3:30 pm (pacific time) OR November 5-6, 2026 | 8:00 am – 3:30 pm (pacific time)
This course is a blend of both asynchronous and synchronous online learning that offers a jump-start into simulation-based health care education. Participants will learn to apply best practices in high-fidelity simulation. Using a dual focus on academic and practice settings, key theoretical concepts and strategies will be explored to support health care educators in providing safe, effective learning environments. The basics of the WSSA Level 1 curriculum will be flexed to meet the needs of the group, followed by Level 3 scenario development and debriefing strategies.

Level 3 – Advanced Debriefing with Implicit Bias
September 11, 2026 | 8:00 am – 3:30 pm (pacific time)
In this immersive workshop, the participant will build on skills learned in basic debriefing courses. Employing the experiential learning framework and utilizing a series of video clips and “live” simulation experiences depicting common debriefing challenges, the participant will practice and receive feedback in order to expand competency in debriefing.
